Galion Freese Center

Planning for a regional sports complex in Crawford County began in 2015, with the Crawford Partnership for Education and Economic Development working in conjunction with the Galion mayor’s office on project development. The Galion Port Authority purchased the land for the project in 2019, and began performing preliminary engineering, design, and environmental compliance due diligence.

What is the Freese Center?

The Freese Center is being designed as a sports and entertainment complex which will bolster the the quality of life in Crawford County by significantly increasing tourism, wellness, and recreational and professional event opportunities.

Plans for funding.

The Freese Center project is being funded through several sources, including private entities and non-profit foundations. A key funding source is The Freese Foundation , a private entity that gives an annual endowment to the City of Galion for parks and recreation projects. Grant money for design and engineering was awarded to the Crawford Partnership by the US Department of Agriculture, and additional funds are being sought. No tax levies are being proposed for the project.
